The Process

The first step in the process is meeting with you, assessing your needs, selecting the perfect material, and generating a comprehensive, written estimate.  The estimate is based primarily on the selected material, edge profile, backsplash, and cut-out designs.  These are explained as follows:

Spectrum Countertops has access to hundreds of stone and solid surface slabs to choose from.  Stone varies in price and is determined by the cost of extraction, country of origin, rarity, and market demand.

Edge Profile

We offer many standard and premium edge profiles.  As edge profiles become more intricate, the design cost of the edge increases slightly.  For descriptions of our edge profiles, please refer to our 'Stone Profiles' or 'Solid Surface Profiles' page under the ‘Technical Data’ navigation tab on the left.

A standard backsplash is 4” tall and finished with a straight eased edge.  Premium backsplashes include full height backsplash, custom designed backsplashes, and splashes with a premium edge profile.  As with edge profiles, premium backsplashes increase design costs.

Cut-Outs are simply voids cut into the surface to accommodate fixtures and hardware.  The most common cut-outs are for undermount or top mount sinks, cooktops, electrical outlets and switches.  Design costs for cut-outs are determined by size and polish requirements.

Scaled elevation and plan drawings of the cabinetry are ideal and expedite the estimation process.  If these are not available, accurate dimensioned drawings will suffice.  Spectrum Countertops will field verify all dimensions during the templating process for accuracy and final pricing.

A detailed written work order including all details and options selected will be completed and signed prior to fabrication.  This work order will itemize and summate all work and associated costs to be performed on the project.  The total price is divided into two payments, an initial deposit to initiate the process and the remaining balance which is due upon completion.

Perhaps the most critical step in the creative process, templating is where we generate the model that will direct the subsequent production.  A precision template is crucial to tight seams, consistent overhangs and square dimensions in the finished product.  At Spectrum Countertops, we utilize a state-of-the-art Digital Laser Templating System to transpose all pertinent cabinet and wall dimensions as well as the required cut-out locations.  The template is then brought into the studio where it is transferred to the fabrication machinery using CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing).  Here, the information is converted into electronically generated vectors that will direct all machine processes during fabrication.

This is where the stone is set to the bit.  After the vectors are established in the computer, the CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) and Edge Machines shape the stone with high performance, diamond cutting tools.  These machines provide unprecedented accuracy with a tolerance of 0.001 millimeter.
