Natural Stone Countertops

Natural stone is a favorite among countertop materials. Its beauty alone puts it on top demand, especially granite countertops. Natural stone countertops offer great durability, wonderful elegance, and a long life.

With natural stone there are many different types, finishes, appearances, thickness, and textures to select from. One great thing about natural stone is that no two stones are alike making every single kitchen one of a kind.

Natural Stone Countertop Materials

  • Granite: Most durable stone countertop, scratch and chip resistant, requires sealants.

  • Marble: Smooth texture, less durable than granite, susceptible to scratches and stains, requires sealants.
  • Limestone: Stains easily, very porous, Jerusalem stone is very popular.
  • Soapstone: Durable, requires little maintenance, can be treated with mineral oils to enhance colors, and offers a soft feel.

  • Slate: Very beautiful, durable, hard, low absorption rate, and should be sealed regularly.

When selecting the natural stone that is right for your kitchen, take into account functionality and appearance. Functionality should come first, but it is still important to know what the stone will look like 10 years from now. Some will stay looking brand new and others will age gracefully bringing a new beautiful look into your kitchen over time.

Cleaning stone is a fairly simple procedure if you follow the instructions given to you with your stone. The most important thing to remember is that you should always avoid products containing abrasives, lemon, vinegar, ammonia, or other acids. In addition, stay away from scouring pads.
